Does anyone know how to 'hide' the long strands of hair to create a short hair look?

Does anyone know how to 'hide' the long strands of hair underneath the top layer of short hair to create a short hair look?

I had my cut to a layered style whereby the top layer is short bob while the bottom layer is long (cos i need to tie my hair up when i dance thats why i cant have it all cut short).

So does anyone knows how to accomplish the normal short bob look by hidding the long lower layer inside? I heard it can be done by tying the long strands into plaits and pin them in. but it seems rather insecure.. help pls!! it would be got if anyone knows of any video sites with videos teaching how to do it.. i tried searching on YT but couldn't find any..
